Guided Historical Tour, Kangra fort &Rock cut temple from Dharmasla

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in McLeod Ganj/Dharamshala to begin your journey to Kangra, starting with a visit to the Masroor Rock Cut Temple. Along the way, you’ll pass through the scenic Kangra Valley and a local village, where you can witness the area’s natural beauty and the daily lives of the local people.

The Masroor Rock Cut Temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita, dates back to the Mahabharata era. Hindu devotees from around the world come to worship the stone images here. Set atop a hill and overlooking a tranquil pond, the temple offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar Range.

Next, visit the Kangra Fort, built by the Katoch dynasty, rulers of the ancient Trigarta Kingdom mentioned in the Mahabharata. As the largest fort in the Himalayas and possibly the oldest fort in India, it withstood Akbar’s siege in 1615 but was eventually subdued by his son, Jehangir, in 1620, forcing the Raja of Chamba to surrender.

You will also visit the Brajreshwari Devi Temple, an important Shakti Peeth. According to legend, after Goddess Sati self-immolated at her father’s Yagya, Lord Shiva wandered with her body, performing the Tandav. To prevent the destruction of the world, Lord Vishnu used his Chakra to scatter Sati’s body into 51 pieces, and her left breast is believed to have fallen here, making it a sacred site. The temple was originally built by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period.

Finally, enjoy some time exploring the vibrant local market in Kangra, where you can shop for local handicrafts, souvenirs, and unique gifts. Afterward, you will be taken back to your hotel to conclude your tour.
